Who we are

The University of Birmingham Islamic Society (UBISOC) is a student’s family away from home.

We are a student-led group of brothers and sisters facilitating sports, socials, halaqat and special guest appearances to make one’s time here that much more fun, halal and beneficial!

Between ISoc’s campaigns, from Freshers and Charity Week to Discover Islam Week and The Ramadhan Project, our members have the chance to meet some of the most incredible people and create some beautiful memories.

If you are new here, join the group chats and keep an eye on our social media platforms for the latest information.

Discover Islam Week

Have you ever wanted to be an ambassador of Islam? Had anyone ever asked you, ‘Not even water?!’

Our annual DIW campaign is run by many Islamic Societies across the country to spread the message of Islam.

With a range of guest speakers, a cultural exhibitions and a range of exquisite activities and stalls, this campaign truly allows the true beauty of Islam to be reflected at the very heart of campus.

Believe and Do Good

The Believe and Do Good campaign recently became an annual long campaign at UBISoc. This means you will catch a BADG event, typically once a fortnight in order to promote the habit of performing small, but good deeds, often.

From donating blood, to planting trees, giving to the homeless and sharing a gift with a neighbour, there is plenty in store! Bring a friend along and gain the ajr together.

The Ramadhan Project

Ramadhan is one of the most special and privileged times of the year as a Muslim and students can rest assured that almost all of their needs will be catered for in this month.

From hosting suhoors across student accommodations, to daily free Iftars and Taraweeh, ISoc has you covered. Don’t forget the halaqas, spiritual talks and live Quran recitations too!

Jumuah

Every Friday, on Campus, in the Chaplaincy (or St Francis Hall on Google Maps!) we typically host 2 Jumuah’s a week. The speakers range from week to week and there are prayer facilities for both brothers and sisters Alhamdulilah.

Please note: during holidays, there may only be 1 Jumuah per week.

Halaqat

For your weekly dose of wholesomeness, we highly recommend our weekly Halaqas, or gatherings hosted on Monday evenings. The chance to discuss everything from why we are Muslim, the characteristics of the Sahabah to virtues, vices, marriage and more - your week won’t feel complete without these halaqat.

This is the perfect place to ask all your questions and share all your thoughts in a non-judgemental and comfortable environment. Don’t miss out!

Roots

Would you like to take part in a course which is structured, engaging and informative? Then the Essentials Course is the one for you!

Roots Sessions run every Wednesday afternoon for lessons which will take you through some of the very fundamentals of Islam, hosted by the Roots organisation.
